The situation
Second-hand fashion online is either a warehouse you scroll for an hour or a marketplace where the seller is anonymous and the buyer carries all the risk. DEPOT set out to be the third thing: small, verified houses selling pieces they have actually checked, organised into edits a person can browse like a look, with the money handled so that neither side has to trust a stranger.
What I made
A marketplace where independent sellers list, buyers pay, and DEPOT holds the payment until the buyer confirms the item. Pieces are grouped into edits and collections rather than one endless grid. Sellers are reviewed before their first listing goes live; a listing page names the house that sells it and the condition it is in.
Returns are free across the EU within fourteen days, and the site says so up front. Under the EU Digital Services Act each listing is offered by a verified third-party seller, not by DEPOT, and the footer states that plainly, next to a page that explains how ranking works.
Three decisions
Escrow, not instant payout. The buyer's payment is taken through Stripe and released to the seller only after the buyer confirms. It costs the seller a few days and buys the marketplace the one thing a new resale platform does not have: trust.
Verified sellers before the first listing. A human review gate in front of every new house. Slower growth, but no anonymous drops, and the DSA disclosure on each listing is true because the seller behind it is known.
Edits over inventory. The catalogue is organised by curated edits and collections, with search and categories behind them. Browsing a look is what makes a young marketplace feel considered instead of empty.
Outcome
Live at depott.no with escrow on every order, verified houses, and EU-wide returns. The commercial model is a founders' rate: a commission set to leave more with the small houses who make the catalogue worth browsing. What is still being learned: how many houses a curated marketplace can carry before the edits stop feeling edited.
